First Time Visit?
If you are visiting Natchez for the first time, or looking for a church to call home, you are welcomed at Jefferson Street UMC!
We are an active and vibrant congregation that loves people. We would be blessed for you to join us for worship or any of our special activities that happen throughout the year. Below you will find some answers to frequently asked questions about your visit to our wonderful church and community:
What is a typical Sunday morning like?
Every Sunday morning at 8:30am, there is a fantastic breakfast for everyone to enjoy in the Christian Life Center. This isn't your average continental breakfast here...friends we're talking bacon and eggs, biscuits and pancakes, sausage and gravy! This is a casual, come and go atmosphere to eat and mingle. Sunday School for everyone begins by 9:30am every Sunday. We offer a variety of Sunday School groups for folks of all ages. Just ask one of our greeters for direction.
Worship begins at 10:30am. We wish to respect and honor your valuable time, so it typically ends by 11:30am. Occasionally, services will last longer, depending on the events of the service (such as Baptisms or Communion Sundays.) During communion services, which are usually held the first Sunday of each month, we enjoy bread and juice together as we remember and honor Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us. The communion table is open to any and all persons who wish to be closer to God, regardless if you are a member at Jefferson Street or not.
What should I do with my children during Worship?
We invite all children of God, no matter your age, into worship! But if you wish, Jefferson Street offers a nursery for babies and young children (ages newborn-3 years). Here they will enjoy spending time with our enthusiastic and experienced childcare ministers as they play and socialize together. Children 4 years through first grade are welcomed to worship with the congregation. Towards the beginning portion of the church service, the children will meet at the front of the congregation for a short bible lesson and then be dismissed for "Children's Church." Older children (second grade and beyond) experience worship with the whole congregation.
Where are you located and where should I park?
We are located in the heart of downtown Natchez, just a few blocks from the Mississippi River. The church is located on the corner of Jefferson Street and Union. (FYI: There are many one-way streets downtown!) Please see our DIRECTIONS section under the ABOUT US tab on the home page for a link to an interactive map of the downtown area. Parking is available in the lot across the street, down the sidewalk in front of the church, as well as the lot beside the Christian Life Center. We have several handicapped spaces directly in front of the sanctuary for your convenience.
